The PlaySpace Vocal Programme
is comprised of students from 8-80 years old.

The human voice is, without doubt, the most accessible form of music making….and yes, everyone can sing!

The private studio caters to the budding young singer, as well as the adult who just wants to sing for recreation, for therapy, or to have that ‘thing they do for themselves’. Lessons of 30, 40 or 50 mins are are structured according to age and needs. Students learn to sing with accuracy of pitch; connect with lyrics and interpret repertoire with expression; move to music to reflect beat, energy and style of the song; and develop a beauty of tone. While developing their solo instrument, students also have the opportunity to come together in Junior and Senior Vocal Ensembles, ensuring that they learn how to create and maintain harmonic lines, as well as experience the intrinsic joy that comes from singing alongside others. Many vocal students from this studio have moved into professional careers in the Contemporary, Music Theatre and Opera industries.

There is, quite simply, something exquisite about the sound of children’s voices joining together in song.

Singing is a powerful therapy, for both singer and listener. In a world where the notion of community is all too often at arms length, the shared musical activity that is singing aids bonding as it creates general feelings of positivity towards all those present.

Many describe the process of singing as a spiritual experience, as it transcends the physical self and stimulates some very basic, vibrational instincts as sound and expression unite. The act of singing together just makes you feel good!
