The PlaySpace Early Childhood Music Education Programme
is a mobile service that offers 50-60 min workshops to pre-schools, early childhood centres and playgroups. Many pre-schools opt to have at least two sessions per term, so that the developmental components of Music Education can benefit their cohorts.
The workshops are structured to enhance singing, moving, listening, musical literacy and playing, as children engage
with percussion instruments, storytelling, parachutes, puppets and each other!
Early Childhood Music Education is critical to the development of verbal skills, listening skills, co-ordination – gross and fine motor skills, memory and cognitive function, social interaction and expressive skills.
According to Harvard psychologist
Howard Gardner
(Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, 1983),
MUSIC is a way of knowing.
Music intelligence is equal in importance to logical – mathematical intelligence, linguistic intelligence, spatial intelligence, bodily – kinesthetic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and intrapersonal intelligence.
